Dana Siegal is the Director of Patient Safety for Candello. In her role she provides leadership and expertise to the development and integration of CRICO’s propriety coding Taxonomy into the data products and services supporting the Candello comparative benchmarking System — a database of nearly 400,000 medical malpractice claims from across the country used for research and development of risk and patient agendas. In addition, she evaluates the risk profiles of academic medical centers, community hospitals, and physician practices across the country assessing where current vulnerabilities exist, and making recommendations for prioritizing action plans.Her specific areas of expertise include Diagnostic, OB, ED, Radiology, and Culture of Safety and Communication.
Following 15 years in Emergency Medicine, Ms. Siegal has been involved in the quality and risk management aspects of healthcare for over 25 years, including NCQA initiatives for large HMOs, and clinical and financial risk management for physician practice groups (IPAs and PHOs). Ms. Siegal has many years of front-line experience in hospital Risk Management and Peer Review, overseeing all aspects of incident reporting and sentinel event management, including root cause analysis, apology and disclosure, credentialing, physician peer review, staff and media intervention, and litigation preparation and support.
An experienced educator, and author of numerous article and publications on patient safety, with an additional background in theater arts, Ms. Siegal is known for her dynamic presentations on risk, error reduction and patient safety with a focus on building a culture of safety for patients and providers. She is an RN, (Lawrence Memorial School of Nursing and Northeastern University) a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), and a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS). She is also certified as an educator in TeamSteps Team Training, and has held additional certifications in Legal Nurse Consulting, Negotiation, and Case Management.
