Candello’s Patient Safety Study Group calls continue to bring together leaders and learners from across the MPL landscape, all committed to turning claims data into meaningful change. In May’s call, Patient Safety & Risk Program Director at Candello, Christine Ringler, spotlighted Candello’s ever-expanding library of publications—designed to equip members with the insights they need to improve safety and reduce risk.
Publications with Impact
Candello produces a suite of free publications, each tailored to meet different needs:
Annual Benchmarking Reports
These deep-dive reports tackle high-impact topics like documentation errors, the role of advanced practice providers, and the financial realities of MPL cases. Produced over months with contributions from analytics, legal, and patient safety teams, these reports help organizations pinpoint where interventions are most needed.
Illuminating Risks Reports
This series, exclusive to Candello members, shines a light on often-overlooked risks using a decade’s worth of closed claims data. The upcoming report focuses on maternal deaths, analyzing 223 cases from 2014–2023. Key findings highlight issues in postpartum care, clinical judgment, and communication—with recommendations targeting maternal health disparities, postpartum hemorrhage, and infection management.
Previous reports have covered ED boarding and equipment failures, offering practical takeaways grounded in real cases.
Strategies for Patient Safety
For those looking for quick, shareable content, this monthly publication delivers bite-sized education and case studies. Topics have included communication during codes, diagnostic errors, and the emotional toll lawsuits take on providers. The best part? It’s co-brandable, so organizations can personalize and distribute it easily.
CRICO Publications
Candello members also have access to CRICO’s collection of clinical guidelines, podcasts, patient safety alerts, and white papers. These are grounded in expert consensus and provide frontline teams with evidence-based tools for risk reduction.
Are Members Using These Tools?
A poll during the session showed strong engagement: most participants had read the Annual Benchmarking Report, and 66 percent said they’d shared it within their organizations. That’s the goal—getting insights out of the PDF and into practice.
